Features of rural power grids
How to solve the issue of electricity supply to a household when the power grid is in a poor condition or is not available at all? What if the owner of the power lines is a garden association that carries out routine repairs and eliminates the consequences of natural disasters with tree branches that appear underfoot as a result of these very disasters, as well as other debris? And such events can leave people living in such areas without electricity for quite a long time! When there is not enough power for everyone, and the owner of the network does not have the funds for reconstruction, and the neighbors are unwilling or unable to carry it out at their own expense? What if you have a house in the woods or on the river bank, and with all of the above, you want to use electrical appliances comfortably, like in the city, while being in harmony with nature? Usually, a gasoline or diesel generator is installed, which scares away all the animals in the area, pollutes the air with exhaust gases, and "presses" with its annoying noise. What about fishing, relaxation and harmony? All these issues were of concern to our customer, who invited us to the site to consider the possibility of installing an autonomous solar power plant. In addition, it turned out that the roof of the house was gable, and the slopes were directed to the east and west.
We took measurements, agreed on possible locations for the equipment, inquired about the customer's consumption habits, identified the planned electrical appliances to be used, and got to work.
Modeling
Modeling of the system showed that the slopes with western and eastern locations are not a big problem, and a fairly small number of PV modules can provide the necessary autonomy, taking into account the seasonality of staying at the facility, without spoiling the architecture. Probably, many of those interested in the issue have at least once seen a roof with slopes to the east and west, with ugly mounted PV modules that the installer tried to deploy to the south. We chose the highest quality and most flexible equipment from VictronEnergy (Netherlands) to preserve the possibility of further modernization if the customer's needs increase in the future.
Photovoltaic module ABi-Solar AB330-60MHC, 330 Wp, Mono HC - 18 pcs., total capacity 5.9 kW-peak
Kripter StringSetterM09 mounts - 2 pcs.
Forecasts
According to the calculations, this equipment was supposed to solve the issue of full autonomy from March to October, and in other months - to cover energy needs by about 50%. This was not a problem, as it was planned to spend time at the facility during the warm season, and if necessary, the customer allowed the use of a generator or partially an external network.
More than half of the project cost was spent on Pylontech batteries produced using LiFePO4 technology. Such batteries are specially designed for cyclic operation, deep discharge, and have an increased number of cycles. Another interesting solution, in our opinion, was the use of an in-house design consisting of a mounting profile kindly provided by Pront for organizing the battery module mounting system.
Result
The equipment was installed, and Internet monitoring was set up. The autonomous solar power plant was waiting for the completion of repairs at the facility and the arrival of the customer. And so, the vacation time came, the owners appeared at the facility, and the operation began. It didn't take long for the power demand to grow. During operation, the facility needed an induction electric stove and an electric kettle! The system heroically provided power to the unexpectedly emerging consumer capacities without any problems!
Until one Friday evening, they were turned on simultaneously with air conditioners and other regular consumers. As a result of this "stress test", the inverter disconnected the load and started signaling an overload. After studying the load graphs from the monitoring, it became clear that the inverter's output power was exceeded by a considerable amount. And this is where the parallel operation function supported by VictronEnergy equipment came in handy, which allows you to connect several identical inverters to one battery pack and work on one common load, or create three-phase systems! The customer decided to complete the solar station with another MultiPlus-II 48/5000 / 70-50, which was done. Now the system has a huge power reserve, which brings comfort in the use of electrical appliances and harmony with the surrounding nature!
